PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana – Free Electricity for Indian Homes
The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a new initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15th February 2024 to promote solar energy in Indian households. This scheme aims to provide free electricity to residential homes by encouraging them to install rooftop solar panels with financial assistance from the government.
Under this scheme, the government will offer up to 40% subsidy on the cost of solar panel installations, making it more affordable for families to switch to renewable energy. The target is to benefit around 1 crore households across India. Besides supporting families, this program is expected to help the government save approximately ₹75,000 crore annually in electricity costs.
